The Climate Group is seeking a highly motivated Fundraising Manager to be based in San Francisco, CA and focused primarily on fundraising for its Under2 Coalition work.
The Climate Group runs the secretariat for the Under2 Coalition. Created in 2015 by the Governments of California and Baden-Württemberg, this is the lead, global coalition of sub-national governments who have signed-up to driving ambitious climate action. It includes many of the world’s most renowned states and regions, climate leaders in their own right. Within only 2 years, it has grown to comprise over 150 states and regions, representing more than 1.09 billion people and more than a third of the global economy.
The Under2 Coalition is growing in both size and ambition. As the Secretariat, The Climate Group plays a key function in coordinating and building the work of the coalition and engaging members. We also lead work streams around transparency, policy innovation and energy transition pathways.
All this work needs funding and developing the networks and relationships that will enable this funding. While we have raised seed funding successfully and have warm leads for longer term funding we need to go further. Many of the key relationships that we need to build are with funders in California as well as leveraging the networks from our offices in London, New York, Beijing and Delhi.
We are looking for a senior fundraiser who can develop and deliver a fundraising strategy for the Under2 coalition, based in CA. This is a new role and offers a fantastic opportunity for someone who relishes an entrepreneurial, creative and independent approach.
To create and deliver the Under2 US fundraising strategy, with a strong focus on growth and setting and achieving ambitious targets
To champion fundraising across TCG, engaging EMT, board members, and teams in areas of shared delivery.
To collaborate with program leads to ensure that Under2 projects are developed with close appreciation of funding ecosystems, deliver market-leading value to funders, and activate all feasible options for monetization.
To lead on the development of effective research into prospective high value supporters, which effectively mines the existing supporter base and engages other teams and offices to scan the horizon for new opportunities, leading to a significant increased, and better qualified prospect pipeline.
To lead on the develop of budgets and plans for which are both realistic and aspirational.
To ensure effective evaluation and reporting of activities and results, and propose and implement plans for remedial action when income and expenditure is deviating from target.
To ensure that fundraising activities are aligned with the relationships with Under2 partners and potential issues are identified and considered upfront.
To make reports to EMT and Board of Trustees as required.
Ability to work in virtual teams, and build working relations, across an international organization as well as playing a key role in our growing CA team.
To work closely with the Under2 Team in building and developing the relationship with the CA government staff and incoming 2018 CA administration.
