BerryDunn has joined with our client, Cardigan Mountain School, to find an accomplished and innovative Director of Communications and Marketing to refine communications with all constituencies, raise the school’s visibility and advance its brand. Reporting to the Head of School and working collaboratively with the communications team, senior leaders, administrative staff, faculty, the board and external vendors, the Director will lead, plan, direct and implement overall strategies for all marketing and communications in order to raise the School’s visibility, advance its brand, and articulate clear messaging to internal and external communities. This is a highly visible leadership position charged with thinking strategically, and acting collaboratively and tactically to develop, analyze, refine, manage and execute all marketing and communications functions.

How you will help the School:
Rapidly acclimate to the Cardigan Mountain School; thoroughly know the history, culture, traditions and communities of the school; determine strategy and key goals; develop a comprehensive and integrated plan/direction for marketing and outreach that advance Cardigan Mountain School and drive increased engagement with prospective and current constituencies.
Collaborate with admissions, development, administrators and faculty in articulating their purpose and ongoing work, and to ensure that marketing and communication efforts are coordinated, consistent and appropriate.
Create and ensure brand and messaging quality and consistency and establish guidelines to apply across all departments, activities and events at the school.
Plan and manage the department budget in order to maximize the effectiveness of all communications. This includes bidding out production of materials when appropriate to outside vendors.
Craft and manage all messaging in the media and coordinate publicity, public relations and serve as the school’s spokesperson if so designated.
Plan for and deploy digital activities: website, online campaigns, email marketing, social media and digital content production.
Manage all aspects of the school’s print and electronic communications, ensuring the continuity of the school’s brand and logo
Provide staff leadership to the department including hiring, day-to-day management and motivation of marketing staff ensuring professional development and excellence.
Evaluate and utilize market data to drive and improve marketing strategy
What you bring for background and experience:
BS/BA in a field related to marketing, journalism, public relations or communications.
5+ years of demonstrated and relevant work experience in marketing and communications, preferably in an educational setting.
Knowledge and experience with communications and marketing principles and fluency in using social media effectively.
Outstanding and demonstrated writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Supervisory management experience, and ability to manage contractors.
Demonstrated ability to develop and monitor budgets and production schedules.
Proven ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of members of the community, including faculty, administrators, trustees, parents, and students.
Proven project management skills, including ability to navigate a project from concept to completion on a timely basis within budget, and respond quickly and effectively in times of high stress.
Excellent experience and understanding of technology and current tools to support content creation and distribution, including desktop publishing, graphic design, digital photography, video production, and content management.
Demonstrated success in bringing regular, positive media attention to an organization.
A willingness to participate and be visible in the Cardigan Mountain School community.
